Eating & Sleeping

Do you want to get the inside word on what it's like to stay with us?

This is what Kel from Eatingandsleeping.com had to say recently. Enjoy.

"Situated right in the heart of Brisbane, the Pullman Brisbane King George Square is in the perfect position for a childfree romantic weekend away for two.

When I think about our stay at the Pullman, it is the service, friendliness and welcoming hospitality we received for the entire stay that remains with me.  The staff, undoubtedly, love working at the Pullman and relish their jobs.

Arrival

Arriving on a Saturday morning (three hours before the official check in time), we were just hoping to park the car and leave our bags before heading off to explore and find somewhere for lunch.

We were greeted by a very well presented and happy Concierge who gathered up our bags and took our car keys.  He happily informed us it shouldn’t be a problem to check in early.

Check In

Walking into the lobby, we were struck by the vast open space, with luxurious seating areas jotted about.  The hue of the golden ceiling gave the cavernous space a warm and inviting glow.   The plush furniture and the different snug seating areas helped to break up the lobby and make it feel homey.

With no wait time at all, we were welcomed up to the centralised reception area and proceeded to check in.  Our room was in fact ready and we were welcome to check in now!

Our receptionist was warm and clearly passionate about her job and hotel.  She wasn’t just going through the motions of check in but really cared we had all the information we needed and wanted to start our stay positively.

Our Room

We bounced up to our Executive Suite on the 13th floor and were greeted with a immaculately light, clean and cool (which was very welcome on a hot and steamy Brisbane day!) two-room suite over looking King George Square.  Walking into the lounge and dining area, then through to the bedroom and exceptionally large bathroom, complete with large spa bath and his / hers sinks.

We loved that the room also had a Nespresso Coffee machine, complete with a lovely selection of pods.

The Pool

After lunch, we headed up to the pool, to soak up some rays.  Situated in the adjoining sister hotel (the Mercure), it was a quick elevator ride and walk across to the pool.

There were no clean pool towels when we arrived but a call to housekeeping resulted in (minutes later), warm, fluffy fresh towels being delivered with an apology and a smile.

The pool is small and you wouldn’t want to spend a whole afternoon there (kids, splashing and noise were the main feature of our hour by the pool), but it was great for a quick cooling dip and some vitamin D absorption!

Executive Lounge

When we checked in, the receptionist also invited us for drinks and canapés in the Executive Lounge later that afternoon.

Unusually, the Lounge was located on the lobby level of the hotel.  Spacious and calming, the Lounge very much reflected the ambiance of the rest of the hotel.  We were greeted by an animated host who went through in detail the canapés and drinks available.

We helped ourselves to a drink and plate of nibbles and settled into a quiet corner to people watch.

The canapés were hot and cold (two types of spring rolls, Thai fish cakes and chicken skewers), all served piping hot and fresh from the kitchen.  There was a great selection of antipasto and cold canapés (mini Caesar salads, pesto and pumpkin pastry cups) too.

We loved our time in the Executive Lounge and were fully entertained by our enthusiastic host, who looked after everyone who came through her doors with the same energy and zest.

Room Service

Upon returning from dinner, it only seemed right that (just for the sake of the review) we should try room service.  Ten short minutes later, our awkwardly ordered desserts arrived (we were the awkward ones, making allergy changes to what was on the menu).  Once again, they were delivered by a friendly and happy server and the order was perfect.

The deconstructed Apple Crumble was light, delicious and exactly as we asked (we ordered it without the berry jelly).  The chocolate fondant was also terrific (warm, rich and moist), but it would have been even better with some cream or ice cream with it.

Breakfast

We had been given the choice of eating a continental breakfast in the Executive Lounge or the full buffet in Bistro Allure.

We headed into the bistro and found a seat next to the open windows in the breeze with a view towards the rejuvenated King George Square.

Once again there was a great selection of hot and cold foods, all of which you would expect in a five star hotel.  All plentifully available and fresh.  I particularly enjoyed the waffles with syrup and light vanilla bean cream.

There was never a shortage of staff clearing plates, fetching coffee orders and cleaning up after guests.  The service was flawless – a great balance at being attentive but not intrusive.

After fortifying ourselves on several helpings of bacon, eggs, hash browns, fried rice, fruit, smoked salmon and cheese, we waddled up to our room to sadly begin packing and checking out.

Check out

Check out once again was quick and easy.  We had no issues with our bill.  By the time we had finished, our car was waiting for us.

An unexpected and welcome touch was a ‘thank you’ bottle of water left in our car by Concierge.  A perfect way to end a perfect stay.

Thank you to the whole team at Pullman Brisbane King George Square.  We will be back.

What we loved:

  • The service and the staff
  • The food
  • The feel of the hotel
  • The huge bathroom
  • People watching (low key sporting teams and tourists alike).

What we didn’t love so much:

  • The pool area."
